Many people who come to Kitty Hawk Watersports on the Outer Banks of North Carolina are first-time visitors who are looking for activities to try on the Outer Banks. If, like most people, you are vacationing here for the week, having a kayak rental at your disposal is a great way to get outside and enjoy the water.
There are countless reasons why you may consider a kayak rental from us. Here are a few:
All that being said, you might wonder, “What do people do while kayaking?” Below is a list of our favorite kayaking activities.
1. Low impact exercise. Kayaking is easy on the body, and you can enjoy a leisurely paddle or go as quickly as you like. It’s a good upper body workout, and if you have lower body wear and tear, you’ll find this activity to be easy on the body.
2. Surfing waves. If you want something a little more adrenaline pumping, take your kayak to the ocean, and catch a wave. It’s easier than surfing because you don’t have to stand up, and it’s easy to catch a wave because the kayak is so long.
3. Kayak fishing. Kayak fishing is currently one of the fastest growing outdoor activities. Due to their shallow draft, kayaks can access areas not easily reached by boat or on foot. Also, because they are stealthy, kayaks can quietly sneak into areas without spooking the fish.
4. Bird watching. Speaking of stealth, kayaks are great for bird watching because you can quietly glide along the shoreline and watch them at eye level. The sound side of the Outer Banks contains wetlands, grassy shores, and canals (called “ditches”) that all make great areas to find birds.
5. Dolphin watching. Dolphins can be found quite frequently on the sounds of the Outer Banks. It’s not uncommon for them to swim close to you if you’re not making a lot of noise.
Once you decide when you’ll be in North Carolina’s Outer Banks and for how long you want to have your kayak, you can book it online, or contact Kitty Hawk Watersports at (252) 441-2756. We’ll be happy to get you out on the water in your kayak rental or any other watersport rentals including paddleboards, surfboards, jet skis, and more.
