Our jet ski tour is definitely a popular activity. I think, however, the primary myth is that customers assume that the tour is a slow, boring trip around the sound. Nothing could be further from the truth; we will go as fast or as slow as you like. The tour covers at least 15 miles across the water. On occasion, the guide will stop and talk briefly, but he/she will keep you moving. If we see a dolphin along the way, we are happy to stop and check them out. In addition, if customers want to stop and do some free-styling, we are happy to oblige.
Our tour hits some cool highlights, but everyone’s favorite part of the jet ski tour is John’s Ditch. John’s Ditch is a canal that goes through the wetlands of Roanoke Island. The Ditch is a local favorite for fishing or just relaxing. It starts just south of the Washington Baum Bridge and winds through the wetlands all the way to Wanchese Harbor. There’s something very cool about cruising through the secluded wetlands.
After that, we typically take a peek of the Bodie Island Lighthouse. Bodie Island Lighthouse started operations in 1872. It is actually the third Bodie Island Lighthouse. The first one was demolished due to poor construction, and the second one was blown up by retreating Confederates. Due to shallow waters, we can’t get too close, but it’s a magnificent piece of history.
After that, we go up to Manteo and check out the waterfront. Moored at the waterfront is the Elizabeth II, which is a replica of a boat colonists would have taken to North Carolina from England. As we go through this area, we slow down and check out the boats and Festival Park.
After cruising around the Manteo Waterfront, we zip over to Jockeys Ridge. Jockeys Ridge is the tallest living sand dune on the East coast. Due to our windy conditions, Jockeys Ridge changes shape and is migrating to the southwest. Here, you get to see Jockeys Ridge without getting sand in your shoes.
